A source close to Selena Gomez has spoken to People about the widespread speculation that some kind of drama went down between her and Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet last night at the Golden Globes. The insider made it abundantly clear: Nope, it didn’t.

The rumors started with fans on X (formerly known as Twitter) trying to guess what Gomez was saying to Taylor Swift and Keleigh Sperry in footage captured at the award show.

Swift and Sperry appeared surprised by what Gomez said to them, leading many to assume the three were gossiping. Some fans speculated that Sperry had said “with Timothée?” based on her lip movements. A few took that information and ran with it, theorizing that Gomez had tried to get a photo with Chalamet, her costar in 2019’s A Rainy Day in New York, but had been blocked by his girlfriend, Kylie Jenner. From there, the theory began to trend as if it were fact, when it was anything but.

The source told People that in the video footage, Gomez “was absolutely not referencing anything about Timothée or Kylie.” Understandably, the source did not share what Gomez was talking about, as it had been a private conversation. But the insider added that the Only Murders in the Building star “never even saw or spoke to” Chalamet or Jenner on Sunday night at the Beverly Hilton, where the show was held.

Last year, Jenner and Gomez also had to debunk internet theories about drama between them. Some TikTok users accused the reality star and beauty mogul of making fun of Gomez’s eyebrows with Hailey Bieber, wife of Gomez’s ex-boyfriend Justin, on Instagram in February 2023.

Jenner responded with a comment: “This is reaching. No shade towards Selena ever and I didn’t see her eyebrow posts! U guys are making something out of nothing. This is silly.”

Gomez replied to Jenner’s comment, saying, “Agreed @kyliejenner. It’s all unnecessary. I’m a fan of Kylie!”
