ARK Survival Ascended Oil Locations & Farming Methods

There are three main methods to obtain oil in ARK: Survival Ascended i.e. mining, hunting, and farming. You can find information about each one of the below:

Mining

Mining is the most straightforward way to get oil in ARK: Survival Ascended and all you need is a pickaxe and a source of oil to harvest it. You can mine it from rocks that are found near oil patches in the ocean or in the snowy areas of the island. These rocks have a distinctive black color and a shiny texture, making them easy to spot.

However, this task can be risky, as you may encounter dangerous creatures in the water or on land, such as sharks, piranhas, wolves, or sabertooths. You may also need to deal with the cold temperature and the oxygen level while diving or exploring the snow biome.

Therefore, it is advisable to bring some protection and equipment, such as scuba gear, fur armor, weapons, and tames, to make your mining trip safer and easier.

Hunting

You can kill certain creatures in ARK: Survival Ascended that drop oil as loot, such as Basilosaurus, Trilobite, Leech, and Enforcer. These creatures can be found in different biomes and locations, depending on the map you are playing on.

Hunting oil can be fun and rewarding, as you can also get other valuable resources and items from these creatures, such as meat, hide, chitin, silica pearls, electronics, and more.

However, it can also be challenging, as some of these creatures are rare, aggressive, or hard to kill. So, you may need to use specific strategies and tactics or bring some allies and tames to hunt them down.

Farming

You can use a Dung Beetle or a Phoenix in ARK: Survival Ascended to produce oil from feces or ash, respectively. These creatures can be found in caves or in the desert, and can be tamed and bred. Farming oil can be convenient and efficient, as you can get a steady supply of oil without much effort or risk.

However, it can also be tedious and time-consuming, as you need to feed and maintain them regularly and collect their output manually. You may also need to deal with the environmental hazards and dangers of their habitats, such as heat and predators.
